Don’t play game with Bokaro Airport: JMM
- JMM to begin demonstration against delay in expansion of Bokaro Airport from party chief, Shibu Soren’s birthday
- JMM sense MP Dhanbad P N Singh playing politics with intention to shift Bokaro airport to Dhanbad
- JMM also raise voice against district administration for keeping careless attitude on airport issue causing delay in removing trees.
- Foundation of Bokaro Airport was laid by chief minister, Raghubar Das and union minister, Jayant Sinha on August, 2018
At a time when BJP government failed to inaugurate Bokaro Airport on December 25, 2018 the day remembered as birth anniversary of former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the opposition party Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has take up this issue and announced to begin demonstration against failure of administration in making airport functional from January, 11 the day they celebrate birthday of party chief, Shibu Soren.
JMM is pointing finger on MP, Dhanbad, P N Singh for delay in commencing of expansion work of Bokaro airport. MLA, Dumri and veteran leader of JMM, Jagarnath Mahto said “it is MP, P N Singh who under a conspiracy is delaying work related to airport expansion. Since the day he become MP, he wants airport should come up in Dhanbad. And now when BJP government has declared to develop Bokaro airport, he is playing politics to make authorities shift it to Dhanbad”.
Mahto said “removing trees inside the airport is not such a big issue as it is being made by the local authorities. JMM is a birthplace of former chief minister and leader of opposition Hemant Soren. Bokaro is a residence of our supremo Shibu Soren. We will not let anyone even MP to play game with airport. We are against delay in commencement of work. We are demanding from administration to remove the trees the biggest hurdle soon. Or otherwise JMM will start raising voice against MP, P N Singh and district administration from the birthday of Guruji”.
A senior leader of JMM, Mantu Yadav said that delay in airport expansion is intolerable. “When central and state government has figure out Bokaro airport to develop it for operation of commercial flights under regional connectivity scheme and secretary level officers in Jharkhand are supporting it, than why delay is being caused. It shows ignorance of district administration officials. Why local administrative officials are negligent in solving the issue. From past four months district administration fails in removing the trees despite of request of AAI. Doesn’t it seem they are doing it intentionally? We will stage demonstration”.
District president of JMM, Hiralal Manjhi on Saturday said “we will stage dharna on December 11 against carelessness of district administration over Bokaro airport issue. On that day we will first celebrate birthday of JMM supremo Shibu Soren at his residence in Sector-1 and from there we will go and stage demonstration. Delay in operation of commercial flights has hurt sentiments of the residents here. JMM will become voice of the residents on this issue. We warn them who having sentiment for Dhanbad are playing game to shift the airport there”.
At present, Bokaro airport is owned and maintained by Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), a unit of Steel Authourity of India Limited (SAIL). The move for expansion of Bokaro airport has been taken following announcement of central government to develop airports under Regional Connectivity Scheme in 2016. There are four airports to be developed in Jharkhand which includes Bokaro.
The state Government had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Central Government in this regard. On January, 12 Jayant Sinha’s had tweeted that “Dhanbad will hopefully soon be served by the SAIL airport in Bokaro. Longer-term, efforts are underway to develop a Greenfield airport that can serve Dhanbad, Bokaro, and Giridih”.
